Cristiano Ronaldo was visibly unhappy at the end of Premier League clash between his Manchester United side and hosts Chelsea after he was restricted to a substitute role. Manchester United caretaker manager Michael Carrick made a big call ahead of the Premier League encounter with Chelsea as he omitted star player Cristiano Ronaldo from his starting XI for the game in favour of an extra midfielder. Spanish national team shot stopper David De Gea kept Manchester United in the game in the opening exchangeswith two smart saves to deny Callum Hudson-Odoi and Antonio Rudiger. The brilliance of the Manchester United goalkeeper ensured that the scoreline was goalless at the half-time break. Chelsea dominated possession but they struggled to create chances apart from the ones that led to saves made by David De Gea off Rudiger and Hudson-Odoi to keep Manchester United on level terms. The Chelsea fans were stunned when Manchester United took the lead five minutes after restart through summer signing Jadon Sancho who punished Jorginho for his mistake. England international Sancho raced clear to give the Red Devils the lead to make it two goals in two games after he opened his account for his new team during the Champions League win over Villarreal on Tuesday night. Sancho wrapped up the 2-0 away win over the Spaniards after Cristiano Ronaldo had given Manchester United the lead in the final quarter. Chelsea players accelerated the tempo of the game after going behind and manager Carrick decided to introduce Cristiano Ronaldo into the game for goalscorer Sancho on 64 minutes in a bid to add more firepower to his attack. Five minutes after the introduction of Ronaldo, Chelsea were given a lifeline when Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka brought down Chelsea centre back Thiago Silva in the box. Italian midfielder Jorginho made amends for his mistake by netting the equaliserfrom the spot kick awarded. Manchester United thereafter held on to take their unbeaten league run to eight games against Chelsea. Star man Ronaldo was restricted to seven touches and he stormed into the dressing room immediately after the game without greeting the travelling fans. |
